Ready to take your sales career to the next level?
Are you an ambitious B2B sales professional who enjoys opening doors, building relationships and turning opportunities into long-term business?
Do you have the drive to develop new customers, the curiosity to explore new markets and the commercial awareness to turn potential into profitable growth?
This could be the opportunity you've been looking for.

Super Rod Ltd is looking for a motivated and commercially minded Business Development Manager to help accelerate its growth across the UK, representing an exciting portfolio of established brands, including Super Rod, Klein Tools and Ergodyne.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a developing business area, identify where these brands can succeed and play a central role in expanding their presence across new customers and markets.
With an established key account team already in place, the business is investing in a dedicated resource to drive proactive new business development. You'll have the opportunity to make this role your own, supported by an experienced Head of Sales & Marketing and a wider commercial team.
If you're ready to move beyond simply managing an existing territory and want to build something, develop your commercial skills and see the direct results of your efforts, we'd love to hear from you.
The Opportunity
As Business Development Manager, you'll be responsible for two complementary areas of growth:
1. Reconnecting with existing customers and unlocking their potential
You'll inherit a defined portfolio of dormant and underdeveloped accounts, giving you an immediate opportunity to reconnect with customers, strengthen relationships and develop previously untapped business.
2. Identifying and developing entirely new business opportunities
You'll explore new vertical markets, identify potential customers and introduce the company's brands to businesses and industries where there is genuine commercial opportunity.
You won't be starting completely from scratch. There is already a pipeline of identified and validated opportunities waiting to be progressed, alongside the freedom to research and propose new areas for growth.
Working closely with the Head of Sales & Marketing, you'll assess opportunities, build commercially sound plans and take successful new accounts from initial contact through to established, growing customer relationships.
You'll retain ownership of the accounts you develop until an agreed point when they are ready to transition to the key account team.
What You'll Be Doing
Developing and Growing Existing Accounts
-
Take ownership of a defined portfolio of dormant and underdeveloped customers, supported by existing account information, contacts and history provided by the key account team.
-
Review and prioritise accounts based on their growth potential, working with the Head of Sales & Marketing to identify those worth developing and discontinue activity where there is no realistic opportunity.
-
Create structured account development plans to increase customer spend, broaden product ranges and improve ordering frequency.
-
Build stronger customer relationships through regular visits, calls and ongoing engagement.
-
Identify opportunities to introduce additional products, cross-sell and support customer product trials.
-
Share customer feedback and potential new product development opportunities with the NPD team and Head of Sales & Marketing.
Winning New Business and Exploring New Markets
-
Develop a strong pipeline of new B2B opportunities across relevant vertical markets, converting opportunities into new customer accounts.
-
Progress an existing pipeline of validated opportunities that have not yet been developed due to resource constraints.
-
Explore new markets and opportunities identified by the Head of Sales & Marketing, alongside those discovered through your own research, customer conversations and market insight.
-
Evaluate opportunities through a structured commercial process, working with the Head of Sales & Marketing to validate potential, quantify the opportunity, develop a minimum viable plan and agree whether to proceed before committing significant resources.
-
Use LinkedIn and other research channels to identify decision-makers, build connections and engage potential customers.
-
Lead prospecting activity, including proactive outreach, cold approaches, customer meetings and initial sales presentations.
-
Identify and attend relevant trade exhibitions, industry events and networking opportunities to develop relationships and generate new leads.
-
Take ownership of new customers beyond their first order, developing them into established, commercially valuable accounts.
Taking Ownership of Your Business Performance
-
Develop realistic business plans and sales projections for both existing and new customer opportunities.
-
Build and maintain account-level forecasts, regularly reviewing performance against actual sales results.
-
Take responsibility for achieving agreed targets covering revenue growth, new customer acquisition and pipeline development.
-
Maintain accurate, up-to-date pipeline information and provide clear progress updates through monthly reviews with the Head of Sales & Marketing.
-
Use commercial insight to prioritise the opportunities offering the greatest long-term value.
Working as Part of a Wider Team
Although you'll have considerable autonomy, you'll also be part of a collaborative business that values shared knowledge and teamwork.
You'll work closely with:
-
The Key Account Team: Coordinating account and contact handovers, sharing customer knowledge and ensuring smooth transitions when developed accounts are ready.
-
Marketing: Identifying opportunities for market-specific campaigns, customer communications and supporting content.
-
Sales & Marketing Leadership: Sharing customer feedback, market intelligence and commercial insights to help shape the wider business strategy.
-
New Product Development: Highlighting customer needs, product gaps and opportunities for innovation.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with the ambition, determination and commercial ability to create opportunities, build relationships and deliver sustainable business growth.
You don't necessarily need to have worked in the electrical or tools industries. We're equally interested in transferable B2B sales experience, the right attitude and a genuine enthusiasm for developing new business.
Essential Experience & Skills
You'll need to demonstrate:
-
A successful track record in B2B sales, including winning new customers and developing a sales pipeline from scratch.
-
Experience growing existing accounts through structured account planning, including reactivating dormant or underdeveloped customers.
-
The ability to build realistic sales forecasts and business plans, and monitor performance against them.
-
Confidence approaching new prospects, starting conversations and delivering persuasive sales pitches.
-
Experience using LinkedIn to research potential customers, identify decision-makers and develop professional relationships.
-
Strong commercial awareness, including the ability to evaluate opportunities, build business cases and negotiate effectively.
-
Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to engage stakeholders at different levels.
-
An organised and structured approach to business development, including the ability to validate opportunities with senior leadership before committing resources.
-
A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly throughout the UK, including occasional overnight stays.
The role is suited to someone with approximately 4–7 years of relevant sales experience, who is ready to take greater ownership of their targets, pipeline and commercial development.
Experience That Would Be an Advantage
It would be beneficial, although not essential, if you have:
-
Experience selling B2B, trade, industrial or technical products, such as electrical equipment, cable installation products, hand tools, power tools or other products supplied to professional trades.
-
Experience developing customers across sectors such as plumbing, construction, security, maintenance, renewable energy or telecommunications.
-
Knowledge of distributor networks, wholesale customers or channel sales models.
-
Experience identifying and developing opportunities in new vertical markets.
-
Familiarity with AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude to improve the efficiency of research, prospecting, outreach and reporting.
-
A central England location, providing convenient access to customers and prospects across the UK.
Industry-specific experience is an advantage, not a barrier. If you've demonstrated the ability to win new business, grow customer relationships and identify commercial opportunities, your experience could transfer well into this position.
The Person Behind the Experience
Beyond your CV, we're interested in what motivates you and how you approach a challenge.
You'll thrive in this role if you're someone who:
-
Enjoys the chase: You're resilient, persistent and motivated by finding and converting new opportunities.
-
Is naturally curious: You enjoy learning about new products, understanding different industries and discovering where a business can add value.
-
Takes the initiative: You're comfortable working independently, researching new markets and building a pipeline where customer relationships don't yet exist.
-
Thinks commercially: You understand that successful business development is about profitable, sustainable growth, not simply chasing sales volume.
-
Values teamwork: You enjoy sharing ideas, collaborating with colleagues and contributing to the wider success of the business.
-
Wants to make an impact: You're motivated by taking ownership, achieving results and helping shape the future growth of a business.
Salary, Bonus & Benefits
Alongside the opportunity to develop your career and make a genuine contribution to business growth, the package includes:
-
Base salary: £42,000–£45,000 per annum.
-
Annual bonus: 15%, linked to mutually agreed KPIs covering revenue growth, new customer acquisition, and the research and generation of leads for new opportunities.
-
Company car for business travel.
-
Company laptop and mobile phone.
-
Home-based working, with regular UK-wide travel.
-
Permanent, full-time employment.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This isn't simply another role managing an established customer portfolio.
It's an opportunity to combine your existing sales experience with greater commercial responsibility, explore new markets and help expand the reach of three recognised product brands.
You'll benefit from an existing customer base, identified growth opportunities and the support of an established commercial team, while having the independence to develop your own ideas and see them through.
For someone who enjoys business development, wants to broaden their experience and is ready to take the next step in their sales career, this role offers a compelling opportunity to grow professionally while making a measurable impact.
